ALL THE TOYS I COULD HAVE HAD
On a Wild Strawberries stroll
along the Fort Mason marina,
I view a bunch of sailboats,
inboards and outboards
with names like Bad Dog
Wind Dancer and Carpe Diem.
I’m saddened with regret about
all the boats I could have had.
I loved being out on the water,
in my modest-sized Whaler,
shouting orders to my kids
like Captain Bligh, insisting
they join me in song:
Oh, the ocean waves may roll
and the stormy winds may blow,
I realize a big boat is not for me.
You must be mechanically inclined
to deal with maintenance of a boat.
Just walking into Home Depot gives me agita.
